Nordic Edtech Group LIG signs MoU with the African Union
Finland, Helsinki: Learning Intelligence Group today confirms the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the African Union. This milestone is a significant move for LIG and Africa Union to strengthen education systems across Africa and facilitate knowledge exchange and cross-national learning. The main cooperation agenda will focus on scaling up the introduction and adoption of LIG’s portfolio companies, Claned Group and Grapho Group, pedagogically validated digital learning tools, especially in early childhood literacy, professional teacher training, capacity building and entrepreneurship in Africa.
Professor Sarah Anyang Agbor, AU Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology stated:
“This MoU with LIG aligns with the AU’s efforts to scale up quality education services, bridge the digital connectivity/divide, increase access to the internet, technology, knowledge acquisition & technical skills development to benefit learners everywhere whether in the cities or rural areas”
According to Mervi Palander, CEO and Founder of Grapho Group Ltd:
“This MoU gives us a unique opportunity to join forces with the African Union in our combined efforts to make high-quality education resources available and accessible to kids in Africa. By partnering with the African Union, it is our wish that kids in Africa, like their counterparts in other continents, will benefit from our personalised, engaging, and evidence-based apps to support their literacy learning in national or local languages at home or in school”.
This news comes in the wake of many initiatives and accomplishments of the LIG’s companies Claned Group and Grapho Group in Africa, including:
Vesa Perala, Founder and CEO Claned Group commented:
“We are super excited to start working with the African Union! We are looking forward to delivering high-impact online learning experiences across the entire continent, from teachers to young, starting entrepreneurs. Progressive online learning with a sound pedagogy works well from Egypt to South Africa – our goal is to make it accessible as widely as possible in close cooperation with African Union”
Together with Claned and ELE, in 2019, GraphoGroup took part in the teacher training intervention by training the teachers of Muskut Primary School in the use of GraphoGame in English classes. This was done to demonstrate to teachers an example method for utilising modern learning tools and ICT in learning processes and in improving student engagement in English classes. Adding the English synthetic phonics earlygrade literacy game to the school’s Lenovo laptops to aid teachers in exploiting the content learned in the ELE/Claned intervention and make tangible the utilisation of ICT in a classroom environment post-intervention and deepen teacher engagement.
